The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up

June 17, 2020 3.44 am

John 2.17 KJV "The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. "

Zeal meaning : Great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.

"Take these things hence Make not my Father's house an house of merchandise."

John 2:16, KJV: "And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise." . John 2:16, CSB: "He told those who were selling doves, "Get these things out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a marketplace!"

Jesus cleanses the temple. "After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued their not many days. And the Jews Passover was at hand and Jesus went up to Jerusalem and found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the Chargers of money sitting." What are the charges of money? You have to pay them to receive the merchandise. People have made the house of God a house of merchandise enormously even in modern day Christianity. The kingdom of God cannot be purchased at all with money. The least must be first. Apostle Paul was not a rich man and many of the disciples in Christ we're poor and not rich people. Christ said the meek shall inherit the earth and the poor shall have the gospel preached to them.

"The meek shall inherit the Earth: Pushy people do not succeed in the end. This saying is adapted from the Beatitudes of Jesus."

John 2:16 To those selling doves He said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn My Father's house into a marketplace!" Reference

Jesus cleanses the temple. In retrospect the temple is the Temple of the Holy Spirit as we were made in his image. Recall Christ forgave the prostitute as she defiled herself. The Bible speaks about the whores and how many defile themselves with such/them. As written below...

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 King James Version (KJV)

"19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." That means no sex before marriage and one must obey the gospel. There are profound reasons to obey the word of the Lord.

"15. So He made a whip out of cords and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle. He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16. To those selling doves He said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn My Father’s house into a marketplace!” 17. His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for Your house will consume Me." Or as written in the kjv "The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up."

After the Lord drove out these money changers that were making merchandize of his father's house he said it will be called a House of prayer they asked the Lord being the Jews, "What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Then the Lord said "destroy this Temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews go on to tell him 40 and 6 years was this temple in building and you'll throw/rear it up in three days? They're fascinated with the construction being the actual building of man's Temple. Christ is concerned with his Temple being raised again. His body and his body of believers to follow.  He challenges them. Why? What value has a physical building with the body of Christ? They're confused. You cant purchase your way in to the holy of hollies. You know he said repent and believe in the gospel or you will all likewise perish in scripture.

Luke 13.3 kjv

Later when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this on to them: and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. As it is written now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover in the feast day many believed in his name when they saw the miracles what he did.

Here's the important part: He being the lord Jesus Christ did not commit himself unto them  because he knew all men. Who did he know? All men. What did he know again about men? What is written as it is written "and need it not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man". What was that? He knew what was in man! Light came into the world and men/man loved darkness. He's a sinner and loves darkness and he has if he believers at all God on his lips but his heart is far from him.

When you pray don't be like the hypocrites doing it in the streets to be seen of men. Your father knows your need even before you ask as it is written. When you pray go into your closet and pray in private and your father will see and reward you. Remember, there is only one mediator between God & man as it is written and that is Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5 kjv His house will be called a House of prayer. Not a house of merchandise. But a House of prayer.

Matthew 6:5-15 King James Version (KJV)

"5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him."

"9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. "14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

Make not my father's house a house of merchandise as it will be called a House of prayer. Amen
