"The Epistle of Paul to the Colossians, is the twelfth book of the New Testament. It was written, according to the text, by Paul the Apostle and Timothy to the Church in Colossae, a small Phrygian city near Laodicea and approximately 100 miles from Ephesus in Asia Minor." : Book of Colossians Overview - Insight for Living Ministries https://insight.org/resources/bible/the-pauline-epistles/

"Paul says that members of the church are being help captive to this inadequate theology, which he calls a philosophy and an empty deceit (Col 2:8). Colossians"
"The problem in Colossae was the same as in Galatians and other early Pauline epistles – Jews were arguing that the gentile Christians were not really “saved” since they did not keep the ceremonial law of the Jews, especially Sabbaths and food laws.  This is the “normal” Jewish critique of Gentile Christianity.  While this adequately accounts for the Jewish aspect of the Colossian heresy, there is nothing in Galatians which leads to the conclusion that worship of angels or visions were part of the Judaizer’s agenda."

So it seems like some weird teachings entered the Colossians Church/Congregation and you have to realize that this happens even today as well as some faiths said Christ is not God the creator. Think when Paul went through some places in Grease he was dealing with people with many Idols too.

"Fred Francis has argued that the Colossian church was influenced by the merkabah mysticism of early Judaism."

Acts 18:6 King James Version (KJV)
"6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles."

So why am I quoting Acts 18:6 ? See Paul went to The Gentiles after he was mis-treated by the Jews.  Then we can understand where and why Paul taught Colossians 2 14-17. God must have had a good reason as he/Paul got his doctrine not from men.

Colossians 2:14-17 King James Version (KJV)
"14
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."

Colossians 2:20-22 King James Version (KJV)
"20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men".

So if you look at Colossians 2:14-17  you will see how such things were taken out of the way and nailed it to the cross. "15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."

We are not under the law (grace) and christians (some) meet on the first day of the week. See below...

So everyday is Gods day and if a man/woman wishes to worship on Saturday or Monday that is his/her prerogative. The lord deserves worship everyday really. Yes we are under grace but we are not to think to be enslaved by the things of the world and sin especially if we are saved. Shall sin abound. If saved and true Christians we are Dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world."

"What day, then, should Christians set aside? There is no commandment given to Christians in this area. Every day of the week belongs to God. The idea of worshiping God one day in seven, whether it be the first or the seventh, and then living for self the rest of the week is a grievous evil existing today. People often think that they can go to church one day of the week, pray and sing a few hymns piously, and then live for the Devil the rest of the time. Every day is the Lord's, and Christians owe Him their worship and devotion as much on Monday as on Saturday or Sunday."

Colossi-ans 2:16 KJV

"14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days:”

Colossians 2

"I. The apostle expresses concern for the Colossians (v. 1-3). II. He repeats it again (v. 5). III. He cautions them against false teachers among the Jews (v. 4, v. 6, v. 7), and against the Gentile philosophy (v. 8-12). IV. He represents the privileges of Christians (v. 13-15).
And, V. Concludes with a caution against the judaizing teachers, and those who would introduce the worship of angels (v. 16-23)." Commentaries Matthew-henry

Back then I believe with the varying empires and probably the Roman empire not to mention such things like Hinduism and Babylon the city God predicted through prophets that would be destroyed which worshiped strange Gods one could see how such things could seep into the teaching of that time period. Things like Gnosticism and other things were effecting their teachings. In research there are similarities between various groups Paul sent letters to or went and taught in their synagogues on the Sabbath Day or even in their Churches of that time period. That's why he once said I am afraid your minds have been corrupted from the simplicity in Christ. This was about 53 or 54 AD probably.  You know Christ said the devil was a liar from the beginning and the father thereof. God is not petty either.

Recall Paul was dealing with radical Jewish people of that time period. He himself was one of them at one time. This was not the Christianity of today. Quite different. Mostly Jewish in nature but there were people such as from grease and other parts of the world that were following the truth gospel and they were under the old testament at that time too. These days we can do an apologetic's of the bible/scriptures but narrow is the way. The way is not the way of the world.

Narrow is the way.

Have a blessed day. Bless the lord.

P.S. Please visit this page links below and read this sermon. There are (3) pages in all. I myself have done blogs on the same things but I was struck how well that sermon is re-laid even a couple of years later.
