B.C. and A.D bible Study Summer 2020

July 14, 2020

Bible studies summer 2020

If there are some important questions to ask it would be when was the old testament written or produced? When did Moses exist or Abraham and when was the new testament written, or what about the Bible Canon. Perhaps when did the Apostle Paul exist. In other words what is the time line on such things. So below is a bunch of information researched/studied. Why is this important? Because this information along with other information such as biblical archaeology tells us a great deal of the truth the that the wicked one hides. The Christianity of the 1st Century is NOT the exact Christianity of today. And we know its changed because scripture told us this would be so. Of course today we are not under law but grace. Christ said his body of believers/the kingdom of heaven suffered violence and history records that as well. The word of God is truth and with study of included biblical apologetic's we can learn a great deal otherwise we would be ignorant to not understand or even know. Of course there is so much more than this that can be learned. It is not the first study done/researched.

When were the Scriptures written?

"200 BC.  They were written between around 200 BC and the middle decades of the first century AD, which means they predate by at least eight centuries the oldest previously known Hebrew text of the Old Testament. Apr 7, 2020"

THE OLD TESTAMENT

"The first "Old Testament" as we know it was called the Septuagint which was written probably 2nd or 3rd century BC. It was translated into Greek around 130 BC, and became the basis for the Old Testament in the first completed Bible.

The Christian Bible has two sections, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is the original Hebrew Bible, the sacred scriptures of the Jewish faith, written at different times between about 1200 and 165 BC. The New Testament books were written by Christians in the first century AD. Jul 12, 2011" that date seems a bit strange. Perhaps confirm the dates here."

So basically, even the New testament was being written within the first century AD. That is profound. I once read somewhere that if books had to be written on the great things the Lord did for other people it would consume volumes. You know he said he came to serve.

 And to add to that.

"But from the middle of the 1st century AD texts begin to be written which will later be gathered into a New Testament, representing the updated covenant revealed by Christ. The earliest such texts are the letters (or Epistles) written between about 50 and 62 AD by St Paul to various early Christian communities.

Evidence suggests that the process of canonization occurred between 200 BC and 200 AD, and a popular position is that the Torah was canonized c. 400 BC, the Prophets c. 200 BC, and the Writings c. 100 AD perhaps at a hypothetical Council of Jamnia—however, this position is increasingly criticized by modern scholars."

What year was the Bible put together Cannon wise?

"The Muratorian Canon, which is believed to date to 200 A.D., is the earliest compilation of canonical texts resembling the New Testament. It was not until the 5th century that all the different Christian churches came to a basic agreement on Biblical canon.  Jan 19, 2018"

Tell me more about the Canon of the Bible.

"The books of the canon of the New Testament were written before 120 AD. For the Orthodox, the recognition of these writings as authoritative was formalized in the Second Council of Trullan of 692.

... Athanasius of Alexandria gave a list of exactly the same books that would become the New Testament–27 book–proto-canon, and used the phrase "being canonized" (kanonizomena) in regard to them."

Which council decided the books of the Bible? And who Decided Which Books to Include in the Bible?

" In his best-selling novel, "The Da Vinci Code," Dan Brown wrote that the Bible was assembled during the famous Council of Nicea in 325 C.E., when Emperor Constantine and church authorities purportedly banned problematic books that didn't conform "to their secret agenda." Feb 24, 2020"

Did King James change the Bible?

"King James did not rewrite the Bible. James, I commissioned a new translation of the Bible which was completed in 1611. James himself was not involved; the translation was done by 47 church of England scholars."

When did Moses live/exist?

There are people that doubt that Moses was a real character. Guess what! The word of God does not lie. "Moses, Hebrew Moshe, (flourished 14th–13th century bce), Hebrew prophet, teacher, and leader who, in the 13th century bce (before the Common Era, or bc), delivered his people from Egyptian slavery." .. "13th century BCE.. Scholarly consensus sees Moses as a legendary figure and not a historical person, while retaining the possibility that a Moses-like figure existed in the 13th century BCE."

Please explain B.C. and A.D

"So, 400 B.C. means 400 years before Jesus was born. A.D. comes from the Latin "anno Domini," which means "in the year of the Lord." A.D. applies to years following the birth of Jesus."

Did Israel exist before Christ and if so, what was it like?

"Israel, either of two political units in the Old Testament: The United Kingdom of Israel under the kings Saul, David, and Solomon that lasted from about 1020 to 922 bc; or the northern kingdom of Israel, including the territories of the 10 northern tribes (i.e., all except Judah and part of Benjamin), that was."

What does Church mean?

Ecclesia (or Ekklesia) in Christian. theology means both: a particular body of faithful people, and the whole body of the faithful. ... Etymology and meaning...

"Where the Masoretic Text uses the term qahal, the Septuagint usually uses the Koine Greek term ekklesiaἐκκλησία, which means "summoned group" (literally, "they who are called out"). ... In particular, the Biblical text consistently distinguishes between ʻedah and qahal.

Tell me more about the bible!

Preparation of the Bible probably began soon after 1450, and the first finished copies were available in 1454 or 1455. It is not known exactly how long the Bible took to print. The first precisely datable printing is the Gutenberg's 31-line Indulgence which is known to already exist on 22 October 1454."

 Earliest manuscripts of the N.T.

The first complete copies of single New Testament books appear around 200, and the earliest complete copy of the New Testament, the Codex Sinaiticus dates to the 4th century.

Whom was Constantine?

"Constantine the Great, also known as Constantine I, was a Roman emperor from AD 306 to 337. Born in Dacia Ripensis, he was the son of Flavius Constantius, an Illyrian army officer who became one of the four emperors of the Tetrarchy. His mother, Helena, was Greek and of low birth."

When did Paul the Apostle die

"The exact details of St. Paul's death are unknown, but tradition holds that he was beheaded in Rome and thus died as a martyr for his faith. His death was perhaps part of the executions of Christians ordered by the Roman emperor Nero following the great fire in the city in 64 CE.Apr 30, 2020"

When was the Rome fire where Nero blames the Christians.

"Nero's Rome burns. The great fire of Rome breaks out and destroys much of the city on this day in the year 64. Despite the well-known stories, there is no evidence that the Roman emperor, Nero, either started the fire or played the fiddle while it burned."

Who are the chosen people?

"The Jewish people considered (in Jewish and Christian tradition) as having been selected by God for a special relationship with him. (in Christian use) those destined for salvation; believing Christians." .. Chosen people, the Jewish people, as expressed in the idea that they have been chosen by God as his special people. The term implies that the Jewish people have been chosen by God to worship only him and to fulfill the mission of proclaiming his truth among all the nations of the world.

When did Abraham the father of all Nations exist?
Abraham was born (Estimated) 1813 years before Christ existed.

When did the word church first appear or when was it first used?

"Matthew 16:18 is the first instance in most English Bibles that the word church is used. Deuteronomy 4:10 is the first instance in the Bible that ekklesia is used in the Septuagint. The word ekklesia in the Greek is what is commonly translated to the English word church."
